Miller best allrounder in Chamonix
On Sunday Bode Miller stormed to the forth victory of the season, already his second in Combined this winter. Ivica Kostelic (CRO) caught up in slalom and made sure place two. After his great result in downhill Rainer Schoenfelder (AUT) confirmed his good shape and finished third. Miller sets benchmark in downhill Taking down an excellent downhill, he underlined his role as the top favorite for the Super Combined win once more as he is also good in shape in slalom this winter. After the downhill Didier Cuche and Andrej Jerman took over place two and three but both couldn´t get in on in the front after the slalom run. Slalom experts Benjamin Raich and Jean Baptiste Grange couldn´t take over a position among the top 30 but they waited for their chance in slalom. Little crystal globe for Miller? For a long time it looked as if Miller could make sure the victory of the little crystal globe for Super Combined World Cup. But Jean Baptiste Grange anticipated the first decision of the winter skiing around the poles in a fulminant way. The French improved from place 41 to six. Together with his compatriot Julien Lizeroux he scored the minimum time of the day in slalom. Lizeroux got on the course quite a few positions ahead of Grange and was welcomed by the cheering audience in the finish after his sensational performance which took him to place five in the end. Raich misses top 30 Neither Benjamin Raich showed one of his best performances in downhill. The Austrian missed the top 30 and therefore had to go on the slalom course quite late. He only reached the 18th position and so also lost the lead in the overall World Cup standings. Rainer Schoenfelder instead became best Austrian. The man from Kaernten had already surprised with his forth place in downhill. Although he couldn´t repeat this in the speed discipline he made it to the rostrum as he improved from 20 to three during the slalom run. First Kostelic who was eighth after the downhill displaced Schoenfelder on top. Miller ahead of Raich and Cuche In Combined World Cup Miller leads with 310 points ahead of Jean Baptiste Grange who has collected 220 points so far. Daniel Albrecht is third (209). In overall World Cup Bode Miller has conquered the lead as well. With 967 points he is in front there. Benni Raich ranks on two (905) and Didier Cuche on three (878). SKI WORLD CUP |
