Resort Review Alta - Intermediate Skiers

An abundance of trails in one of the most beautiful regions in the Rocky Mountains

Evaluation Intermediate Skiers: Alta: Evaluation: 4.5
Unlike most of the Rockies, the mountains in the Little Cottonwood Canyon near Salt Lake City bear great resemblance to the Alps. The mountains are steep and almost give the impression of skiing in Austria or Switzerland. Consequently most descents in Alta are quite demanding. We recommend good skiers to start the day at the “Sugarloaf” quadruple chair. Numerous carving trails, perfect for a nice warm-up, can be found there. Continue to the “Supreme” lift (see trail map) where quite some intermediate trails as well as difficult ungroomed terrain await to be conquered. Same goes for the terrain at the “Collins” and “Wildcat” lifts. If you leave the easy descents you will find yourself amidst challenging moguls and powder runs. If the terrain at Alta gives in before your legs do we recommend purchasing the Alta – Snowbird combination ticket. 150 km of trails leave nothing to be desired. Our conclusion: wonderful tree skiing and challenging off-piste trails!
