Ankogel Mallnitz – Definitely worth the day trip!

The ski resort Ankogel Mallnitz is located, as its name implies, beneath Ankogel’s 3246-meter peak – not far from the town of Mallnitz in Carinthia (a state in Austria). The base terminal of the Ankogelbahn I, the kids’ park and the bunny slopes are located right next to the free parking at the resort. If you’re coming in from the north, the shortest way to get there is by taking an auto train from Bad Gastein all the way to Mallnitz. It isn’t cheap at 17 euros a ticket (a couple euros less if you buy them in advance), but it does save you 70 km and the 10 euro fee for the Tauern Tunnel (ca. 10 euros). The other option is to take the A10 (E55) to the Spittle exit on the Drava River and then continue through Lumped (taking a right) and Obervellach (another right) to Mallnitz. The base is just a few minutes by car or ski shuttle from the town of Mallnitz. At the ski area, winter athletes will find a total of 30 kilometers of slopes (6km of blue, 16km of red and 8km of black) serviced by four tows and two cable cars.
