Norquay – the ski resort nearest to Banff!

Just a ten-minute drive away from Banff, Norquay is the closest ski resort to the renowned Canadian winter sports’ town of Banff. It is one of three resorts (the two others being Lake Louise and Sunshine Village) in the direct vicinity of the bustling ski-metropolis of Alberta. And since Banff is a mere 1 hour and 45-minute drive from the Calgary’s international airport, getting there is fairly uncomplicated for winter vacationers from all over the world. If you happen to be driving in from the west, however, Rogers Pass will threaten to make your trip a more turbulent one. For this reason, we recommend that those travelling by car to check current road conditions at www.drivebc.ca before getting on the road. One small drawback to the resort’s incredibly scenic location in Banff National Park is the $20 fee required per car, per day. Once you arrive at the free parking at the foot of Mt. Norquay, a little tractor with a trailer will come around to save you the short walk to the base. A total of 5 lifts move skiers from 1680m (5,500ft) up to the resort’s highest point at 2450m (8,040ft). Though not as big as Lake Louise of Sunshine Village, Norquay’s varied and thoroughly challenging terrain make it a very attractive alternative. It is also the only one of the three that offers hourly tickets. That and its ideal location just outside of Banff, Mt. Norquay is the perfect resort for last-minute vacationers just looking to get a quick couple-hour skiing fix.
