Cardrona – “My best time of the year”! |
| Cardrona Alpine Resort is one of the largest ski resorts in the New Zealand South Island. Together with “The Remarkables”, “Coronet Peak” and “Treble Cone” it belongs to the “Large Four” in the Southern Lakes region near Queenstown. Like in all ski resorts in New Zealand there are only few lift-facilities. Cardrona features three chairlifts, three magic carpets and one t-bar. However these lifts make 300 ha of skiable terrain accessible. Cardrona is situated right between Wanaka and Queenstown which are two of the most famous ski locations in New Zealand. Travelling there is most convenient via Queenstown where also an international airport is situated. It takes about one hour to get to the Cardrina Valley and up into the ski-resort. Unfortunately the last part of the mountain road that leads into the ski resort is not tarred. Snow chains should therefore always be carried along. From the north (i.e. Christchurch) the “Major Road 84” via “Lake Hawea” and “Wanaka” is most recommendable. The ski resort itself is a standout in terms of natural beauty. Not a single village or town can be seen from the slopes. |
