Copper Mountain – More than just an alternative to Vail, Breckenridge & Co!
Whereas Vail, Breckenridge and Beaver Creek all have a legendary reputation around the world, Copper Mountain is still relatively unknown, particularly among European skiers. After clicking through our individual categories, however, you might just feel like giving Copper Mountain some more of your well-deserved attention. Way back in 1880, Copper Mountain was established as a copper mine – hence its name. But it wasn’t until 1972 that a certain Chuck Lewis bought the land surrounding Copper Mountain and created the ski area. Today, Copper Mountain has 22 lifts and stretches over 985 hectares, making it one of the largest ski areas in Summit County and all Colorado. Copper lies approximately 75 miles (120km) west of Denver and 19 miles (30km) east of Vail. If travelling by car, we recommend taking interstate 70 (I-70) out of Denver and getting off at exit 195. After leaving the interstate, you’ll find signs directing you to the free parking at Copper Mountain. A free shuttle service will take you from here to the lifts. You can also pay to park directly at the base, if you like.| Final grade: |
