The ski resort practically in the middle of the city of Vancouver!
The first thing you’ll notice about Cypress Mountain is its location: the ski area is located a mere 35 kilometers from downtown Vancouver and can be reached from there in 45 minutes. Many of the slopes here are flood- lit until 10 o’clock at night, giving Vancouverites an opportunity to hit the slopes even during the week after regular working hours! Heading toward Aquamish/Whistler on the Trans-Canada Highway will get you to the road that will take you directly there, and there’s plenty of parking for visitors right at the base. For an even easier trip, just catch a “Cypress Coach Lines” bus, which takes skiers from all over town up to the ski resort. For bus schedules and ticket prices, please see their website at www.cypresscoachlines.com. Another major highlight at the resort: its incredible ocean view! This incredibly unique experience does have one minor drawback, however; due to the ski area’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean and its relatively low altitude (915 meters – 1440 meters), powder slopes are not very common here. Its 240 hectares, serviced by six chairlifts and three tows, are divided into two separate adjacent ski areas – Black Mountain and Mt. Strachan (pronounced “strawn”). In the middle of the two is the base (Cypress Creek Lodge), where the ticket office and two restaurants are located.| Final grade: |
