Off-piste is where it’s at!

The ski resort Gargellen in the beautiful Montafon valley is characterized, thanks to its advantageously high elevation at between 1423 to 2300 meters above sea-level, by its extremely reliable snowfall. With a total of 47 total kilometers of trails and 8 lifts, it belongs to the middle-sized ski areas in Vorarlberg, but easily holds its own against the mega resorts in longer trails, powder and the beginners and families categories. It is very easily reached on the A12 (Inntal autobahn). Coming in from Innsbruck, you’ll pass through the Arlberg (toll) Tunnel and continue along until you hit the Schruns / Bludenz / Silvretta Hochstraβe exit. If you’re driving in from Bregenz, take the A14/E60 to the same exit. From there it’s only about another 15 km on the B188 to St. Gallenkirch. There you’ll take a right heading toward Gargellen, and after about another 10 km you’ll be at Gargellen. You’ll find free parking right at the base of the Schafberg gondola (A). The very modern 8-seater will drop you off right smack in the middle of the ski area.
