To get right to the point: Even very advanced skiers can spend a single great day at Hinterstoder. The extremely steep Hosskogelabfahrt trail (11) coming off of the upper terminal of the Hosskogel double chairlift is good fun even after the first couple runs. The other two blacks in the resort, Wertungsabfahrt (no.8) and “Hannes Trinkl,” the World Cup run (2a), will present a challenge for even the best of skiers. You’ll even find some good off-piste skiing coming off of the Alm lift. The skiing tour that takes you through Loigistal can be reached with the Wurzeralm lifts (free to skiers with a 5-day Hinterstoder pass), and is a real attraction for carving and skiing-tour fans. The tour does not, however, end at lift, so you should make sure to plan your return to the ski area or hotel before starting out. All in all, Hinterstoder is not a bad choice for expert skiers looking to spend just a single day on the slopes. For one day, this quaint little resort in upper Austria can keep just about any winter athlete entertained.
