Unlike the steep faces in the European Alps the Rocky Mountain peaks tower less precipitous above the high valleys which are located at 2500m above sea level. Consequently, perfect conditions for intermediate skiers that aren’t looking for thrilling adventures on steeps but are into pleasurable skiing. More than 150 trails are to be discovered at Mammoth Mountain! Especially above the “Eagle Lodge” (see trail map) an abundance of intermediate terrain (marked blue in the USA) awaits to be conquered. All trails are made accessible by modern chair lifts or gondolas (there are only 3 tow lifts in the entire resort!). We especially enjoyed the trails “Christmas Tree” and the more demanding “Redwing” at “Chair 8” (see trail map). Even though the higher regions right below the Mammoth Mountain Peak are dominated by very difficult “Double Black Diamond Runs” intermediate skiers should not miss out on a ride with the “Panorama Gondola” to the highest point at Mammoth Mountain!! The view of bizarre rock formations in the “Yosemite National Park” in the north-west of the ski resort will definitely leave you breathless! The intermediate trail “Upper Road Runner” will then lead you safely down to the base of “Chair 14”!
