Klostertal – The family-friendly alternative in Arlberg!
Lech and St. Anton are not your only options! Only 15 km from St. Anton, in Austria’s beautiful Klostertal valley, are the towns of Kloesterle and Danoefen. The base terminal of the Sonnenkopf gondola, the only way to get into the ski area, is located in Danoefen. Until the 1970’s, there was no ski area in the Klostertal valley. With the construction of the Arlberg road tunnel, however, winter tourism began to rise there as well. Yet compared to the mass tourism that takes place on the mountain itself, the valley has remained relatively quiet. If breathtaking scenery is what you’re looking for, and you can do without the rowdy apres-ski scene, Sonnenkopf might be just the place for you. If you’re coming in from the west, we recommend taking the A14 out of Bregenz until you run out of autobahn, and then following the Arlberg road tunnel (Arlberg-Schnellstraße). Exit at Wald am Arlberg and follow the signs to Kloesterle. From the east you’ll want to take the Inntalautobahn A12, which turns into the Arlberg road tunnel S16. If you don’t mind paying a toll, you can take the tunnel all the way to the Wald exit. The cheaper route, however, (but only fair-weather option) takes you through St. Anton and over the Arlberg pass into the Klostertal valley.| Final grade: |
