Beginners should definitely keep away from the upper areas of the ski resort. The sole gentle way down from the 3165 m (10384ft) high sunshine Peak is via the “Sundial”, “Rendezvous Way” and “Broadway” (see trail map). All other trails at the Sunshine Peak or at Mt Werner (3221m / 10568 ft) are earmarked as intermediate or difficult terrain. Especially the challenging Mt Werner is no ground that beginners should venture into. But don’t despair! The lower areas of the mountain provide indeed suitable terrain for novice skiers and boarders. Most trails leading down from the mountain station of the gondola are beginner friendly. The “Why Not” trail for instance and the “Right-O-Way” are very flat but beautiful long trails which terminate in the valley. Perfect terrain for all those that are strong of leg and lung, but still lack technical skills for more challenging terrain. The “Christie Peak Express” chair takes winter enthusiasts to three further nice gentle trails: "Boulevard", "Main Drag" und "Yoo Hoo". For absolute strangers to snow-sports the base provides a beautiful beginner area that leaves nothing to be desired. No less than 5 magic carpets take the novices up and around the novice area. Advantageous is also the fact that the ski and snowboarding school in Steamboat counts 400 ski instructors and is said to be among the best ski schools in North America.
