Queenstown is located in the south of New Zealand`s Alps and is one of the most popular ski towns in the southern hemisphere as it is surrounded by four great ski resorts: ““The Remarkables”, “Cardrona”, “Coronet Peak” and “Treble Cone”. “The Ramarks”, as the resort is also called was founded in 1985 and is therefore the youngest ski resort in the region. To that effect it is quite popular with the younger winter sports enthusiasts as well as with snowboarders. Unlike many other ski resorts in New Zealand “The Remarkables” is easily accessible. The parking lot is situated in the valley just 4 km outside of Queenstown. From there you can either take the shuttle bus (fee required) or you drive your car the 14 km on a gravel road into the ski resort. In case of bad weather snow chains are compulsory. As Queenstown also has an international airport the region is quit popular also with international guests. By car you best reach Queenstown via the “Major Road 6”. From Dunedin it takes about 3,5 hours, from Christchurch about 6 hours.
