We’re letting the cat out of the bag right away: Turoa at Mt Ruapehu is the perfect destination to take first “steps” on skis or snowboard. Right above the parking lot at the base the two short tow lifts “Alpine Meadow Platter 1” and “Alpine Meadow Platter 2” access a great practicing area that should live up to any first timers desires. Contrary to the neighbouring Whakapapa ski resort inexperienced skiers and boarders can also find some easy terrain outside the beginners area. “Clarry’s Track” (trail 2), “Boneyard” (trail 7) and “Lower Freeway” are further nice slopes for winter athletes that consider themselves beginners but have stood on skis before.
