Val d`Isère - Le plus bel espace de ski du monde!

"Le plus bel espace de ski du monde" – "the most beautiful ski resort in the World" is the self-confident slogan of the Val d’Isère Tourism Board. It is certainly a fact that the “Espace Killy” (named after triple Olympia winner Jean-Claude Killy) which encompasses Val d`Isère (1850m) and Tignes (2100m) is known way beyond French boarders. Especially the outback possibilities of this vast and beautiful mountain region are almost legendary. Espace Killy features 300 km of groomed trails. However it is necessary to purchase the combination ticket which enables accessing both, the trails of Val d’Isère and Tignes. This test report focuses solely on Val d’Isère. Val d’Isère’s ski-history goes back to 1934. The ski-village is located in the heart of Savoyen amidst several peaks which almost crack the 4000m mark. The most striking peak is doubtless the 3656m high Grande Motte. From Albertville Val d`Isère is easy to reach on the N90 via Moutiers, Aime and Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Whether Val d`Isère deserves its fame beyond French boarders you will find out when reading through the different categories.
