Where après ski is concerned, those visiting the Matterhorn will have to put with the same disadvantages as in all glacier ski resorts. The last gondola going downwards must be taken in order to get back down the mountain. Therefore après ski after lifts close is impossible. Those not wanting to live without après ski late into the morning hours should visit the Austrian glaciers in Sölden and Kaunertal as they are the only glacier ski resorts allowing direct access by car. However the two mountain huts at the Plateau Rosa and at the Trockener Steg are beautiful and provide the typical alpine lodge flair. In the valley in the village Zermatt numerous beautiful restaurants can be found but due to the popularity of Zermatt they are all quite pricy.
