Officially, „Zermatt“ is the only place in the Alps where heliskiing is offered. The helis of „Zermatt Air“ take adventure seeking freeriders to the best off-piste rides around „Zermatt“. But all those who are highly skilled skiers but can’t afford this thrilling experience don't need to worry, the ski resort has a lot to offer. Although only two runs are categoriezed difficult black runs (plus at „Cervinia“ there is is another very short black section) the resort is definitely a challenge to every skier, no matter how skilled. A tip for those who want to stock up their meters-in-altitude –account: Doing the „Ski-Safari-10000“ or the „Ski-Safari-12500“ you can conquer breathtaking 10000/12500 meters in altitude. Apart from a wide choice of slopes you can do some wonderful off-piste descents should there be enough snow. At the „Gornergrat“ and the „Rothorn Paradise“ you can find a few marked avalanch-safe ski tours which are a great alternative to the groomed terrain and will certainly challenge even the most experienced of skiers.
