„Zermatt“ – The most beautiful ski resort in the Alps?

Attention: This is the „Zermatt“ winter report. For information on summer skiing , please see „Zermatt Summertest“. Zermatt truly understands to harmonize tourism and nature. Zermatt is completely car-free therefore the voyage to the foot of the Matterhorn is a little more complicated than to other ski resorts. For those coming from the west the voyage there is most recommendable via Lausanne and the Rhône- highway A9 until Visp. Those coming from the the north must take the transport train through the„Lötschbergtunnel“ and from the east you need to take the transport train at the Furka-pass (the transport trains accommodate you and your car) to get to Visp. From there only few kilometres need to be covered to get to Täsch (5km away from Zermatt) where the parking lot with more than 3000 parking places is situated. Between Täsch and Zermatt a shuttle train runs every 20 minutes. From the train station Zermatt to the base of the Furi gondola another 1000m need to be covered by electro-taxi or by taking the short walk through the beautiful mountain village Zermatt. The most conveneient way to start your day on the slopes is at the „Gornergratbahn“. The base area is located right at the train station. It will however take you about 45 minutes to reach the mountain station. Now see for yourself whether „Zermatt“ is the greatest resort in the Alps by checking out the different categories.
