Welcome to Big Sky, the biggest skiing in America!
Perpetual blue skies. Millions of snowflakes fluttering to the beat of your heart. It´s the details that move the mind and stir the soul. Details like 400 inches of annual snowfall or 3 mountains with lots of elbow room. While exploring the variety of terrain, don’t worry about waiting in lift lines or squeezing between other riders on the runs. Big Sky’s priority has always been to keep the lift system ahead of the lift riders, with an average of only 2,000 people per day, the mountain experience is just as it should be, a place all your own. The mountain is always expanding, including the recent installation of the Dakota Chair servicing over 300 acres of the newly opened Dakota Bowl and the adventurous Bavarian Forest. Lift lines are basically non-existent here. The skiing and riding is the ultimate experience. Explore the backcountry on snowshoes or take a relaxing sleigh ride. The choice, like Big Sky itself, is all yours. Lone Peak Tram The Lone Peak Tram is proud to transport skiers and riders for the 12th season. The story of its inception is one of labor and love. Before The Tram, Big Sky Resort was known for its intermediate terrain and light lift lines. But a hankering for the extreme among Big Sky´s core riders fueled management´s decision to shun industry critics and install a tram to the summit which would expand the resort´s overall size by 50%. This furthered Big Sky´s skiable terrain by over 1,200 acres and increased the vertical to 4,350 feet, placing it among the top three ski resorts in North America. Construction didn´t happen without its share of logistical concerns, though. The Tram was built with the aid of 3,000 helicopter flights and hundreds of specialized high-altitude workers. Even heavy construction equipment had to be torn apart and reassembled at the summit. Today, The Tram continues to transport technical skiers and riders to some of the most difficult terrain in the country while welcoming the less advanced skiers and sightseers to 360 degree views of three states, two national parks and dozens of peaks. Village Center Newly opened last season is the Village Center, a four story building and centerpiece of the Village. Consisting of slope-side work/play suites, and larger two and three bedroom luxury suites it has everything to make Big Sky a great place to vacation. The pedestrian level features 10,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space and currently holds Andiamo Italian Grille, A new storage room for locker pass holders, the Painted Pony Art Gallery, the Big Sky Wellness Center, the Snowsports School Break-room and Café Flora a coffee and gift shop. New businesses are scheduled to move in this season as well. The 49 work/play business suites are 475 square feet with a fireplace, entertainment kitchenette, high speed internet, flat panel television, a wall bed and sleeper sofa and bathroom. Many units have direct snow access and a secure interior hallway. It is landscaped and has a heated hot tub, pool Snowsports School Our professional staff of international guides and instructors look forward to showing you everything the slopes of Big Sky have to offer. While being serious about teaching you to ski or snowboard, we also focus on making every lesson enjoyable. We invite you to discover how much fun and graceful winter mountain sports can be. -- Troy Nedved, Snowsports School Director Equipment Rental & repair Big Sky Sports Rental is your complete ski and snowboard headquarters in the Snowcrest Lodge.
