Diavolezza Ski area: The dramatic

The locals talk of the “festival hall of the Alps”. And mean the theatrical panorama, the devilish pistes and the 100% skiing fun. That is, at least 100% … Skiing here, where the icy peaks of the Bernina Massif tower high above the glacier tongues, requires considerable concentration. The walls of ice and sheer precipices seem almost within grasp. Silvery overhangs sparkle in the sun and snowy-white peaks glisten against the azure-blue sky. The broad range of ski pistes provides plenty of variety – and that from mid-October right through until the end of May. One particular highlight is at the same time a 45-minute test of stamina − at 10 kilometres (6.2 miles), Switzerland´s longest secured glacier descent down to Morteratsch. For expert skiers, there is only one thing that can top this: on the opposite side of the valley, the Lagalb, he queen of the mountains and host to the most challenging run in the whole of the Engadin. Branching off from here is also one of the most beautiful ski tour routes, leading over the south flank to La Rösa in the Puschlav.the queen of the mountains and host to the most challenging run in the whole of the Engadin.
