The Ski Resort

The Tyrolean ski area of Fendels is an ideal destination for families. With just 15 kilometres of trails, it may be compact, but thanks to its combined lift ticket with the Kaunertal Glacier, additional runs are never far away. Skiers can take to the slopes directly from town or alternatively ride the gondola from Ried up to Fendels at 1,352 metres.
In the valley, young skiers can explore Kinderland Bibiland with its magic carpet lift, surface lift and obstacle course. The local ski schools are also on hand to ensure that fun comes first. Beginners can explore the blue-marked trails alongside the Hammer and Zingge lifts and if you are looking for a longer run, then head for the Sattelboden chairlift to experience the Südabfahrt (no. 4), a delightfully mellow trail which winds through a larch forest.
As soon as you’ve gained some confidence on your skis, take the Plangger or Waldlift from Sattelboden to try the Nordabfahrt (no. 3). The latter is the only red-rated run in the ski area alongside the Sattelboden-Abfahrt (no. 7). The Plangger-Lift is also the gateway to more testing challenges in the shape of the black-marked Kanonenrohr (no. 6a) and Plangger Nord (no. 5).
All night owls will delight in the fact that the Nordabfahrt (no. 3) is open for floodlit skiing every Thursday from 7.00 PM to 10.00 PM, offering 2.5 km of fun after dark.

On Mountain Dining

There are two lodges available in Fendels for refuelling. The Sattelklause is a self-service restaurant at the mountain station of the Sattelboden lift, where guests can choose between Tyrolean specialities as well as world cuisine, and enjoy the generously sized sun deck to boot. On the Südabfahrt (no. 4), the Truyenstube is another good place to grab some food and drink. Regional fare is served here in cosy surroundings.

Must-Ski Runs

Experts shouldn’t miss the challenge of the Plangger Nord run (no. 5), while beginners should head for the Südabfahrt (no. 4) which takes a mellow route through the forest.

Activities

At the Sattelboden mountain station, guests can trade in their skis for a sled. The lift station is the starting point for the Naturrodelbahn Fendels, which winds down some 4.5 km into the valley. This sled run even holds the Tyrolean seal of quality for sledding tracks. Sledding after dark is offered under the lights every Thursday from 7 PM to 10.00 PM.

If you fancy a warm soak after a day on the mountain, head for Feichten and the Quellalpin. This leisure centre offers a large indoor pool with dedicated children’s and swimmers’ sections, as well as a wellness area with Finnish sauna, steam room and infrared treatment.
