In terms of skiing, Lienz has it all! Boasting two skiing areas, Zettersfeld and Hochstein,
the town in the heart of the Alps is the place to be for every skiing enthusiast.
Spectacular finish area
Hochstein, the local mountain of Lienz, is the only stop of the FIS Alpine Women´s World
Cup circuit in East Tyrol. Held every two years, the next World Cup race in Lienz will take
place in December 2011. The world´s elite skiers will fight for the victory shooting down the
Schlossberg slope to the spectacular finish area, right in the middle of the town. This
unique atmosphere is one of the elements that give Lienz its particular appeal as World
Cup location. Many international ski teams regularly set up camp in Lienz in order to train
for their competitions.
Pure excitement
However, Hochstein appeals not only to World Cup racers, but also to ambitious hobby
skiers. The skiing area features an outrageously long downhill track: from the top station at
1988 metres a.s.l. you can carve down right into town (668 metres a.s.l.). The new combi
cableway (eight-seater cable car and six-seater chairlift) is very popular, especially among
families with young children. In the most easy and comfortable way you can get up to the
Moosalm, where you can find a gently sloped area, equipped with a platter lift. Hochstein
represents the ideal skiing area for parents who want to enjoy enchanting and challenging
slopes, while the kids can have their own fun in the children´s slope area.
New all-year-round toboggan run
This winter, Hochstein will come on stream with a brand new attraction: East Tyrol´s first
all-year-round toboggan run. On the 2,7 km long ride through the forest you will live an
exciting adventure and, at the same time, enjoy the stunning panorama of the town. The
new toboggan run is definitely a must for everyone who wants to get the best of Lienz,
having a lot of fun.
