  • SKI RESORT

The Lienzer Bergbahnen (gondolas) combine two ski resorts, situated right above Lienz: Hochstein and Zettersfeld. The two resorts are linked by 37 kilometer (23 miles) of lift accessible terrain and 12 lifts. Plus, you can actually make it from the town center to the ski resort in only 15 minutes!

The signature portion of this mountain is the long and black marked FIS world cup run. This one takes you from 1500 meter (4921 feet) above sea level to an altitude of 670 meter (2198 feet) and leaves you feeling like a champion. The remaining terrain of the Hochstein is mainly red and you get to enjoy ski sport deluxe. Beginners want to steer clear of this area because there are only two easy runs in the training area Tuxermoosmit that is accessible by gondola Schlossbergbahn.

Beginners have dedicated learning areas in form of blue runs everywhere in Zettersfeld. The gondola gives you access to outstanding runs that are actually awesome for the whole family. Follow the extra long No. 1 that starts at Steinermandl lift and that takes you right back to the base station for pure skiing pleasure. Ride the Bidner ski tow to find additional easier trails. With only one black trail, the Osthang run, is Zettersfeld the right place for all families. Don´t miss the terrain park right next to the chairlift Steinermandl with features that is taking all riders to their maximum.

Zettersfeld is a great area for skier who love ski circuits. Many tours wait to get discovered and there are circuits for all levels and abilities.

    Mountain huts and restaurants
The ski resort Hochstein rewards everyone who overcomes the small moguls because this way you will get to the Hochsteinhütte at the summit. Here they serve the best Eastern Tyrolean specialties but also easy dishes like Jausenteller (snack plate). From up here you have the best overview of the ski resort. But even if you don´t want the hassle of riding up you can find tons of mountain huts throughout the resort that leave you tempted to stop. If you are in the area of the base station of the ski tow Hanserwiese you can rest at Stern Alm and around the middle station you´ll have countless options for lunch and snacks that never loose their reference to the local cuisine.

Zettersfeld is also great for hungry winter athletes. Grab chairlift Steinermadl or ski down along the lift to find three more restaurants. A breathtaking view offers Steinermandl panorama restaurant at 2213 meters (7260 feet) above sea level. Mecki´s Dolomiten Panoramastubn is beckoning you in for a break with not only tasty food but also an amazing sun deck to enjoy the winter sun.

    Trails you shouldn´t miss
The FIS world cup run in the resort Hochstein is oriented to needs of skiers that love to challenge themselves. If you don´t want an audience making your first attempts or while you´re improving your skills check out the panorama run (No. 9) and the family slope No. 1 in Zettersfeld.

    AFTER SKIING

You can´t miss the Osttirodler tobaggon run during your stay in Lienz. The Alpine Coaster brings a blast for the whole family. Jumps and waves bring the right amount of change and you can decide how fast you want to hit the run.

Winter hiking is perfect for simply enjoying the beautiful dolomite landscape. You will guaranteed forget about your every day life in the white winter wonderland. Spoil yourself with some local food at one of the countless comfy mid-mountain huts. If you feel more adventurous, slip in your snowshoes and experience the ungroomed trails.

    Apres-Ski and bars
The nightlife in Lienz starts straight ahead after lift closing times. There are tons of bars lining like Paperlapup, the Deep Blue or Stöcklbar.

    Culinary
On the mountain you have the best lunch possibilities but in town gourmets have even more reason to be excited. The old town hall, to be more exact, the Brauhaus Gösser Bräu (brew house) invites with hearty fare. Touquet awarded cuisine awaits you in the restaurant of the Parkhotel right at lake Tristacher See. On the menu is everything from local delicacies to fish specialties. The Kirchenwirt combines haute cuisine with traditional mountain lodge charm. The result is definitively worth a try by being a mixture of down-to-earth food with an extra twist.
