Moelltal Glacier an Ankogel are the highest skiing mountains of Austria’s most southern province. Here on the south side, just below the main alpine ridge, the absolute snow guarantee of Kaernten’s only Glacier combines with the attraction of the sunny slopes to provide “white delight”. The Moelltal Glacier lies between 2,100 and 3,122 m above sea level and has 53 km of “ever ready” glacial slopes and 16 km of off-piste runs. The ski resort on the Ankogel (1,267-2,636 m) plays at the top of the league of Austria’s most attractive sunshine ski resorts with 35 km of slopes and some of the most popular slopes in Kaernten above the 3000 m level. Skiers, carving skiers, snowboarders and free-riders can hit the slopes and enjoy an exciting day on both mountains. The super plus on the “Moelli” and the Ankogel: There are no annoying waiting times on the slopes and lifts. Pleasure skiing and the typical Kaernten hospitality set the tone for slope and après enjoyment. Both ski resorts can also be easily reached, whether one travels by car or not, due to the international station Mallnitz-Obervellach and reasonably priced flight connections including shuttle service from the airports of Klagenfurt, – and completely new – Salzburg and Laibach (SLO). The wide and rambling slopes in “Cinemascope” on the Moelltal Glacier and the sunny peak slopes above the timber line on the Ankogel are a treat for the eyes and hearts of carving ski lovers. The two 7 km long, challenging FIS and valley runs demand a high level of stamina from downhill skiers. The 16 km of off-piste runs on the Moelltal Glacier invite skiers to kick up some snow. On the well arranged family slopes, as well as the hilly terrain of both skiing mountains, families can snap on their skis and boards and have a great time together.“Kaerntens oldest ski school”on the Ankogel and the “Ski & Board Academy” on the Moelltal Glacier would be delighted to give a little “coaching”, if the snowplough or parallel swing doesn’t seem to quite work out. And when it comes to giving the finishing touches to deep snow skiing, to the front and backside on the board or to the special carving techniques, the professionals of both snow sport schools are the right people to consult. The cosy ski lodges – such as the “Weissseehaus”, the “Duisburger Huette” or the “Europa Bar” – are highly recommendable pit stops to take a comfortable rest and enjoy refreshments. “Top class catering at the peak” is provided by the modern Eissee Panorama Restaurant

at 2,800 m above sea level on the Moelltal Glacier, which has the highest wintergarten in Austria.

“Boarder’s Paradise” with snow, sun and fun guarantee The Moelltal Glacier more or less did a “backflip” and became a real hot spot for board fans as soon as the trend sport took off. The combination of glacial snow guarantee, the longest hours of sunshine in Austria and the snowboard fun park on the Schareck still provides the snowboard scene the ultimate kick. The world champion, Sigi Grabner, and his colleagues venue at the “Moelli” all year round in order to perfect their performance. The fun park with boarder cross course, half-pipe and mogul course provides them with the perfect training facilities – facilities that fulfil the requirements of any budding amateur. Snowboarders also like to test their skills in the free-ride area away from the slopes, where they can perform spectacular jumps. The wide and tree-less peak slopes that reach up to 2,800 m above sea level are just perfect for cruising and wide swings, and the 7 km FIS valley run is perfect for the “downhillers” among the board scene. But no fears, newcomers to the board scene are welcome: Snowboards can be hired directly on the glacier, and the Ski & Board Academy is there to provide you with tips and tricks.
