St Moritz Corviglia Ski Resort

Corviglia offers skiers and snowboarders a whopping 163 kilometres to explore, picture-postcard panoramas and a wide range of activities away from the slopes. There are 31 runs spread across the mountain, ready to satisfy skiers of all abilities. If you are still getting used to life on two skis – no problem, there are 42 kilometres of easy-marked runs to explore. Advanced skiers are spoilt for choice with 87 kilometres of intermediate groomers, while experts can also look forward to 34 kilometres of demanding black-rated runs to get their pulses racing. From the valley, 22 lifts carry winter sports fans up to the upper reaches of 3,057m Piz Nair – the peak which towers over the ski area.

With support from the local mascot Snowli and the teams from the region’s ski schools, Corviglia is an ideal place for youngsters to make their first turns. The ski area also has a special children’s lift dedicated to young learners.

The Corviglia terrain park “Crowland” at the Corviglia mountain station has everything to keep freestyle fans happy. With over 30 obstacles spread across the park, you won’t get bored here any time soon. The 400m Easy Park is the best place to start out for rookies. For more advanced jibbers, the Medium Park has plenty of fun features and jumps in store. Young freestyle rides should also check out the funslope with rollers, banked curves and playful features. If you don’t feel up to the challenge just yet, the local ski schools thankfully offer freestyle courses.

Speed demons should hit the high-speed course (no. 7, above the Alpina Hütte) and test themselves against the clock and other skiers.

If you want to try the Engadin run, the nine-kilometre “Hahnensee-Abfahrt”, you can take the free “Hahnensee-Express” shuttle bus from St. Moritz Bad to the Corvatschbahn lift.

Corviglia is part of the Engadin St. Moritz winter sports region. Visitors can discover some 350 kilometres of immaculate groomers across four large (Corviglia/Piz Nair, Corvatsch, Diavolezza/Lagalb, Zuoz) and five smaller ski areas. You can even explore all the individual ski areas in just one day by taking a snow safari through the Engadin.

The mountain restaurant Chamanna, which is specialised in delicious one-pot dishes, oozes mountain lodge charm. Expect good but down-to-earth food at the Alpina Hütte, and after you’ve polished off your meal, head over to the snow bar for a “cool” drink. The El Paradiso provides contemporary cuisine which masterfully combines local tradition with influences from around the globe. Typical Swiss dishes like rösti and raclette are served piping hot at the Glünetta cabin, while Grison specialities are available at the Panoramarestaurant Piz Nair. Pizza lovers shouldn’t miss the chance to check out Chadafö Marguns and its delicious pies baked in a wood-burning oven. Food lovers look no further than Mathis Food Affairs for a range of tempting treats. If you are only looking for a snack, the Quattro Bar should be just the ticket. The youngest visitors to the ski area will also find a restaurant tailored especially to their needs in the form of the Snowli Restaurant by the valley station. Other food and drink options on the mountain include the mountain restaurant Lej da la Pêsch, the restaurant Marcho Allegra Marguns, the restaurant Trutz, the Signalstübl, the hip Sternbar, the Stüvetta Marguns, the restaurant Chasellas, as well as the restaurant Chesa Chantarella.

If you enjoy making some laid-back turns, don’t miss the Paradiso-Abfahrt, the world’s first yoga piste. Yoga on Snow can be practiced in special quiet zones on your own or under expert tutelage. Advanced skiers should try the Hahnensee-Abfahrt at least once, as this is probably the quintessential Engadin run.

There is also plenty of fun and action to be had away from the ski slopes, such as on the ski area’s sled runs. There is also an ice rink offering visitors the opportunity to skate, try curling or play some ice hockey. In Corviglia there is also a network of beautiful winter hiking and snowshoe paths for long walks in the backcountry. It’s hard to imagine a better way of enjoying the incredible panoramas of the Engadin mountains and winter landscape. In addition, there are also several well-maintained cross-country ski trails through the region. If you are feeling adventurous and would like to view the region from a bird’s eye perspective, then paragliding is also offered locally.

Bar Finale offers everything to get your après-ski evening started – from hot jägertee to cocktails. Add some good music into the mix and this is the ideal place to start your evening. The Roo Bar and Cascade are also great places to round out the day. There are numerous bars, lounges and clubs available in the centre of St. Moritz that keep the party going well into the night. The King’s Club, Sunny Bar, Dracula Club and Cava Bar offer dancing, fun and party vibes until the small hours.

Foodies are really spoilt for choice in St. Moritz, as the village is home to numerous restaurants with outstanding fare. Award-winning Mediterranean cooking is available at Cà d’Oro in St. Moritz – the restaurant’s food received 17 GaultMillau points as well as a Michelin star. The wine selection is also outstanding. Talvo, housed in one of the region’s oldest farmhouses, also serves up light Mediterranean cuisine. The food by Martin Dalsass, who has also been called “the master of olive oil”, received 18 GaultMillau points as well as a Michelin star. Other top restaurants mentioned by the GaultMillau guide include Enoteca, Le Restaurant, Grand Restaurant, the Italian Ristorante Grissini, Les Saisons, La Marmite, Chasellas, El Paradiso, The K., as well as the Japanese restaurants Nito and Matsuhisa.

It is roughly 200 kilometres to St. Moritz from Zurich. The simplest route is to follow the motorway A3 until Sargans and then turn onto the A13. You then end up in Thusis via Chur. From there, take exit 22 Thusis-Süd and head for Tiefencastel. Bundesstraße 3 then leads via Savognin to Silvaplana. Take the B27 for the last leg, which winds its way to St. Moritz. The closest airport is also located in Samedan, around eight kilometres from St. Moritz. The airport has regular international flights to the airports in Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Milan and Munich. If you want to travel to the resort by rail, you can take the train all the way to the station in St. Moritz. The ski bus serves the local area and is free-of-charge.
