Zugspitze - Top of Germany

Seven Months Winter Season: The Zugspitz Area - Germany´s top-rate Destination for all Winter Sports Enthusiasts From November until May beginners as well as experts can always find optimum conditions Combining various mountain landscapes the Zugspitz Area is a true El Dorado for all winter sports enthusiasts. The area features well-groomed trails for learning and teaching as well as historic advanced and expert runs. Discover untouched freeride runs, the spectacular Terrain Park and 22 kilometers of skitrails. Ride on one of the 12cable cars and lifts of the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG (Bavarian Zugspitz Transportation Inc.) directly up to the Zugspitze and the adjacent glacier. From November until May beginners and expert skiers can find optimum conditions in view of Germany´s highest mountain. The Zugspitz Area boasts of great snow for seven months meaning great fun in a perfectly interconnected skiing area at top elevations of 2,000 (6,560 ft.) to 2,720 (8,922 ft.) meters. Skiing on the Zugspitzplatt, Germany´s only glacier ski area, is an experience of its own. Here, the sun shines above the clouds and the view extends from the German and Austrian Alpes far into Italy and Switzerland. Take one of the new cogwheel trains or the Eibsee cable car to reach skiers´ heaven. With nine ski lifts, two cable cars and one cogwheel railway with an uphill capacity of 11,640 riders per hour you will not have to queue for a trip uphill. This area features trails for all levels of ability and untouched slopes exciting also powder snow enthusiasts. Furthermore, it has become the place to meet for snow boarders and freeriders featuring an approx. 1 km long park which is divided in two different lines, one for the beginners and one for experts and offers a kicker and a rail area . Freeriders can try any uncharted powder snow slope within the marked and safeguarded area. Stop for a break at the homely self-service restaurant SonnAlpin, where you can have a taste of local dishes and much more. Furthermore you will be able to meet at the new culinary and visual highlight – the Gletschergarten, a round tower made of glass with an open display kitchen, which is located on the sun deck of the SonnAlpin restaurant. In the filigree glass and steel building, visitors can enjoy the mountains and their meal almost as if they where outdoors thanks to the glass panels, which can be opened in any direction and to the movable roof and structure. Of course, the food is freshly prepared by Zugspitze chef Akram. Moreover, the ski and snowboard center Zugspitzplatt provides gear rental and service by trained staff. The Zugspitz Area and its various mountain landscapes boast of fabulous snow and a multitude of winter sports activities, both for beginners as well as for experts. Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Grainau feature eight ski schools where beginners get professional instruction and advanced skiers can fine-tune their technique. But also during summer season Zugspitze is a very special highlight. Visitors arriving at the Zugspitzplatt for the first time, might have a look at Germany´s top elevation chapel Mariä Himmelfahrt“ (Assumption of the Virgin Mary) before riding to the summit at 2,962 meters ( 9,715 ft.) on the glacier cable car. A spectacular panoramic view from the balcony, video presentations on the construction of the cogwheel train or a walk into neighboring Tyrol, Austria, contribute to an unforgettable experience. Enjoy excellent food and beverage including a free four-country panoramic view in the Gipfel Alm and in the Panorama Bistro.
