Now it's official: The ground-breaking ceremony in the Snow Space Salzburg ski resort on September 3, 2019 heralded the two construction projects for the new Flying Mozart gondola lift and the connection to Shuttleberg Flachauwinkl/Kleinarl. In the 2020/21 season Snow Space Salzburg will thus become one of the largest ski resorts in Austria with more than 200 km of slopes. More than 35 million euros will be invested in the project.
The new Flying Mozart gondola
The Flying Mozart gondola lift at Grießenkareck is one of the most frequented cable cars in the ski area Snow Space Salzburg. Now the more than 30 year old facility is being replaced by a modern gondola, in which guests no longer have to stand. The 10-seater cabins of the new Flying Mozart gondola with individual and heated seats provide significantly more comfort and offer a great view thanks to generous glazing. The gondolas are also equipped with free WLAN.
Also the capacity increases considerably. With 4,000 persons per hour, it is almost doubled, which is ultimately intended to reduce waiting times at the base and middle stations. The ride from the Kirchenboden district of Wagrain to the Grießenkareck, where 970 metres of altitude difference will be climbed, will take only eleven minutes.
Special attention is paid to the new intermediate station. It is mostly built underground and therefore fits well into the landscape. A ground-level access to the G-Link aerial tramway is planned here, via which the Grießenkar is connected to the Grafenberg. The new top station will be further up than before. The exit is planned next to the top station of the Starjet 3 chairlift, so that the Flachau side is better connected to the gondola lift, as well.

Panorama Link to the Shuttleberg
The second major lift project is implemented by Snow Space Salzburg together with the ski area Shuttleberg Kleinarl/Flachauwinkl. The new Panorama Link gondola lift will connect the top stations at Grießenkareck and Shuttleberg. The route of the 3.1 kilometer long cable car is planned to run below the mountain ridge. Equipped with a bright design and lots of glass, the 10-person gondolas offer a magnificent view of the Hohe and Niederen Tauern on the 8-minute ride between Wagrain and Kleinarl.

Construction work on both projects will start this year so that the facilities can start operation in December 2020.
More than 200 km of slopes
With the two new lifts, the ski resort is also significantly expanding its range of slopes. As of the 2020/21 season, skiers have the possibility to ski with one ski pass from St. Johann to Zauchensee. Instead of the previous 120 downhill kilometers, winter sports enthusiasts will soon have a total of 205 kilometers at their disposal. This makes Snow Space Salzburg one of only six ski resorts in Austria that can offer more than 200 km of slopes.
With the broad range of slopes as well as attractions, adventure stations and ski huts the ski area will become more attractive for its guests. "Size means diversity, it is the key to variety" Wolfgang Hetteger, CEO of Snow Space Salzburg explains. The executives also expect the project to have a positive impact on the region's summer tourism.
